Accessibility Statement

CyberU Inc. is committed to ensuring digital experience that serves the widest possible audience, regardless of disability or technology. The below statement is only applicable to the CyberU course player, which remains sole location accessible by users of our corporate offering, CyberU Enterprise.

We are continually improving the user experience for everyone, and applying the relevant accessibility enhancements in accordance with the World Wide Web Consortium's (W3C's) Web Content Accessibility Guidelines, to a double-A (AA) level. CyberU routinely checks when amendments are made to the course player page to ensure they meet accessibility requirements.

CyberU will continuously integrate accessibility standards when amending any existing consumer-facing pages, as well as apply these standards to any new page that is created.

Measures to Support Accessibility

CyberU Inc. takes the following measures to ensure accessibility of CyberU:

  • Include accessibility throughout our internal policies.
  • Assign clear accessibility targets and responsibilities.
  • Employ formal accessibility quality assurance methods, in-house and via a third-party agency.

Conformance Status

The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) defines requirements for designers and developers to improve accessibility for people with disabilities. It defines three levels of conformance: Level A, Level AA, and Level AAA. CyberU is partially conformant with WCAG 2.1 level AA. Partially conformant means that some parts of the content do not fully conform to the accessibility standard, due to circumstances out of our control.

Using the Course Player

We aim to provide the most accessible experience possible for our visitors and have implemented the following accessibility features:

Keyboard Navigation

  • Logical and consistent navigation are provided for keyboard users.
  • Links and buttons can be understood out of context for screen reader users
  • Links and buttons are highlighted on keyboard focus

Images

  • Images have descriptive alternative text
  • Decorative and spacer images have null alternative text

Changing the color and font of the display

CyberU offers two color schemes in the course player, both of which are AA-compliant. However, the user may use native browser controls to override these settings.

Forms

  • Form fields contain the appropriate text labels, fieldsets, legends and captions
  • Forms have accessible error handling which are marked with an asterisk for mandatory fields.

Multimedia

  • Media player is accessible and includes closed-captions
  • Audio and video has been set not to play automatically upon opening the course player
  • The user may disable continuous autoplay between course videos in the Settings menu.

Links

Links to downloadable documents and attachments will open in a new window or download directly to the local device to avoid conflicting with assistive technologies.

Assistive Technologies

The following assistive technologies have found to be compatible with the site except for areas that have accessibility limitations.

  • JAWS version 17.0 Screen Reader
  • Dragon Naturally Speaking 15
  • ZoomText 9.1 Screen Magnifier

Browser Compatibility

The site has been cross-platform and cross-browser tested and is currently compatible with modern browsers.

CyberU is not compatible with Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Apple Safari or Microsoft Edge versions older than two stable releases. It is also not compatible with Internet Explorer versions older than Internet Explorer 11.

Technical Specifications

This website has been developed to conform to World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) standards for HTML (HyperText Mark-up Language) and CSS (Cascading Style Sheets).

Accessibility of CyberU relies on the following technologies to work with the particular combination of web browser and any assistive technologies or plugins installed on your computer:

  • HTML
  • WAI-ARIA
  • CSS
  • Javascript

These technologies are relied upon for conformance with the accessibility standards used. Every effort has been made to make these technologies as accessible as possible.

Please note: The site has been designed to degrade gracefully in older browsers and when additional technologies such as JavaScript are unavailable. However, in these circumstances, certain features may not function correctly.

Limitations and Alternatives

Despite our best efforts to ensure accessibility of CyberU, there may be some limitations. Below is a description of known limitations, and potential solutions. Please contact us if you observe an issue not listed below.

Known limitations for CyberU:

  1. Zendesk widget heading order:When the Zendesk widget is open, the header bar creates a second h1 on the page. However, we cannot control the styling of a third-party tool. We will continue to work with Zendesk to pursue a technical solution that allows us to manipulate the styling of this widget element. Please contact us if you experience difficulty navigating the course player.

Assessment Approach

CyberU has employed an external entity that was not involved in our design and development process to evaluate the compliancy of our platform. The Digital Accessibility Centre (DAC) conducted an evaluation of our conformance to accessibility policies in accordance with WCAG 2.1. This evaluation was completed on May 26th, 2021.
